Responsible:
Giovanna Bossi;
Giovanna Bossi Rosenfeld, a native historian of Florentine architecture and licensed tourist guide, specializes in tours of Florence from a Jewish perspective. She makes Jewish history come alive through her knowledge, stories, and by actually taking you to the places where Jewish history was made and is still alive.

Giovanna will show you an insider’s view of a Jewish Florence not found in guidebooks.
These are the tours that Giovanna offers:
• Jewish Florence half-day tour (3 hours)
I will introduce you to the history of Florence and take you to see the beautiful Synagogue and the Jewish Museum. Through a walking tour to the city center you will discover the unexpected presence of Jewish history from the XV to the XIX Century in some of the most famous landmarks such as Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo area and Piazza della Repubblica, where the ghetto once stood.

• Jewish Florence full-day tour (6 hours)
In addition to the half-day tour together we visit the very interesting old Jewish Cemetery of Florence with tombs of XVIII-XIX Centuries and the Museo Firenze Com'era on history of Florence, which houses paintings and a model, that describe Florence’s ghetto in the late XIX Century. At this point in time this tour is available only on the 1st Sunday of each month, when the Cemetery is open, otherwise it a very high cost for private opening is required.

• Jewish and Renaissance Florence Full day (6 to 8 hours)
How did Jews live in Florence at the time Botticelli painted the “Primavera” or Leonardo started the “Mona Lisa”? In addition to the half-day Jewish Florence visit some of the most famous Florentine museums and sites, such as the Uffizi Gallery, the Academia and the Medici Palace. I will show you how Renaissance art and life style from a Jewish perspective. You will also see the little known ways that Christian culture interpreted and assimilated the Jewish religion.

• Customized tours Half (3 or 4 hrs) or full day tours (6 or 8 hrs)
I can design many different tours, customized to your interests. Beside the Uffizi and Academia and the other famous museums (Pitti Palace with Boboli Garden, the Medici Chapels, the Bargello Museum etc.) there are many wonderful sites to visit in Florence and surroundings that few tourists ever get to see. Do not forget that I am an architect and historian specializing on building restoration: we can visit together some villas and gardens, or private family palaces, or very special restoration workshops. You will never forget these experiences!
