Some history of the Jewish Catacombs
In 1842 a group of Jewish Catacombs was discovered in the hill "La Maddalena" about a mile North-East from Venosa. The Italian Ministry for the preservation of the cultural heritage took great care to identify 590 burials but in respect to the Jewish law the tombs weren't opened.
